undoxx is a queer artist of color collective that intervenes against censorship. 

In a world that wants to silence artists, making our work and breaking silence is how we stop censorship. We produce exhibits and festivals presenting censored artists and art works. We organize events to learn from artists and advocates fighting censorship. We build power in-person and online among artists to dismantle censorship

We formed a collective in Spring 2024 after witnessing one of the largest waves of censorship in the US in Fall 2023. undoxx media and programs feature global majority artists, queer and trans artists, women artists, and marginalized artists. These artists have been the target of censorship for generations. They understand censorship’s inner workings.

FESTIVAL ARTISTS & SCHEDULE
Across three weeks, undoxx presented performances, films, and new media works, conversations, teach-ins, and resource-sharing events for artists seeking tools to navigate the shifting landscape of censorship in the arts. By bringing together global majority artists, queer artists, and marginalized artists who have understood censorship’s inner workings for generations, undoxx sparked conversation and generated resources for artists and audiences in the U.S. to understand censorship in the arts, its history, and its current evolutions. undoxx made space for people to learn in community and presented work by censored artists as their primary intervention.

Studies Project: Borderless Artist Long Table on Censorship

EVENT DETAILS
This gathering included short presentations by advocates working to mitigate censorship in the arts and a long table discussion open to all attendees. The long table offered space for artists to share experiences with censorship and enable community members to trade tools and tactics to continue making art amidst censorship.

Bridge Live Arts hosted undoxx organizers, advocates from Artists at Risk Connection, and artists from National Queer Theater and Minneapolis for a daytime virtual panel to share stories and resources about the censorship facing artists today.

This gathering for artists at risk of censorship and concerned with censorship to build solidarity offered space to contemplate collective strategies to protect freedom of expression, and for artists to meet other values-aligned artists. Fostering creative collaboration so that artists can keep making powerful work, the gathering featured a conversation with Karen Finley, George Emilio Sanchez, and Shirine Saad on arts censorship since the 1990s, and what we can learn from artist-activists who have long refused to be silenced.
